September 20, 2019 – RICS and Columbia University have come together to launch their first annual Construction Technology Symposium to explore and discuss the impact and integration of new and emerging technologies in the construction industry on October 16, 2019 at Columbia’s Faculty House, Presidential Level, 3rd floor, 64 Morningside Drive in Manhattan. The all-day event features leading contech experts and executives, including Denise Berger, FAIA, Chief of Operations and the Engineering Department at The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey; Maureen Ehrenberg FRICS, Global Head of Digital Facility and Asset Management at WeWork; and Christopher Sharples AIA, Principal at SHoP Architects.
According to research company CREtech, venture investment in private construction technology companies leaped to $6.1 billion in 2018 from $352.1 million in 2016. 2019 is on track to set another record, with $4.3 billion invested already as of late June. This mass of spending directed toward the contech space has garnered major attention in media, project strategy, field operations and project delivery.
“Technology is a rapidly emerging professional and investment space, and construction technology is a major part of that revolution,” said Francisco X. Pineda, Program Director and Faculty for the Master of Science in Construction Administration program and symposium speaker. “Our goal with the symposium is to bring together the most creative and influential minds in the contech space to explore how technology is making the industry more efficient, safer and sustainable as we all work to create a better built environment for the benefit of all.”
The event, which follows recent RICS accreditation for graduates of Columbia’s M.S. in Construction Administration program, brings together owners, builders, designers, engineers, tech providers, scholars and students currently field-testing and developing some of the industry’s leading technology solutions.
Through interactive presentations from experts with real-world experience, attendees will learn how to:
- Identify the current landscape of emerging construction technologies being adopted by the largest and most sophisticated projects in the market
- Identify strategies for deploying talent and technologies that ensure final project outcomes are achieved and value is generated for all stakeholders
- Consider new and emerging project needs that can be supported by tech solutions on the horizon
