October 10, 2019 – Reed MIDEM and MetaProp NYC are pleased to announce the addition of two distinguished headline speakers for the annual 2019 MIPIM PropTech NYC event: Vicki Been, Deputy Mayor of Housing & Development in New York, and Lisa Picard, President and CEO, EQ Office – a Blackstone owned company. The event will take place on November 12-13, 2019 at the Metropolitan Pavilion with conference sessions also taking place at the Altman Building next door.

Environmental sustainability has been a key theme at recent MIPIM PropTech Summits. High energy prices, climate change and new government regulations are actively changing traditional industry platforms and practices. Panelists will analyze how the real estate industry is being transformed and discuss strategic ways to adapt and invest moving forward, as well as how disruptive technologies such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence and big data are optimizing real estate management and profitability in the digital era.
Been, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Development, is a nationally recognized expert on land use, urban policy and affordable housing. Been worked as HPD Commissioner from 2014 to 2017, helping craft Housing New York, the Mayor’s plan to tackle the affordability crisis and create and preserve 200,000 affordable homes by 2024. During her tenure, she oversaw the financing of a record 62,500 affordable homes—enough for 170,000 New Yorkers. She restructured the City’s programs to reach a wider range of incomes and secure more affordable housing for every public dollar spent.
Been has also served as Director of NYU’s Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy, Boxer Family Professor of Law at NYU School of Law and Affiliated Professor of Public Policy of the NYU’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service. Been graduated from Colorado State University and received her J.D. from New York University School of Law. Been has served as a Visiting Professor of Law at Harvard Law School and as an Associate Professor of Law at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
Picard is President and Chief Executive Officer of EQ Office, where she leads vision and strategy for the Blackstone-owned company. As CEO, Lisa drives the strategic direction for the organization and seeks new pathways for value creation.
Prior to joining EQ Office, Lisa worked as a real estate executive for Skanska USA, developing office and residential properties in the Northwest, while also guiding investments for the company in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. At Canyon Ranch Spa and Resorts, Lisa drove the expansion of the experiential hotel brand in Florida and developed several office developments in Seattle for Hines Interests, building more than 6.5 million square feet of ground-up real estate valued in excess of $5 billion.
Lisa holds two master’s degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She also lectured at MIT and the University of Washington on visioning, technology, design thinking, mindful leadership, real estate innovation and understanding risk in changing markets. She serves on the Board of Directors for MiiR and Honest Buildings, a proptech capital management platform for real estate owners.
